Karate classes for Families
Who Have Trained In Martial Arts Before
Generally, we prefer to teach adults and younger children separately, which is why we have separate classes specifically for cadet students.
Having said that, we know that sometimes the only way parents can participate in Karate (due to childcare issues) is alongside their children. For that reason, we do allow mature children to participate alongside their parents in our "family classes". Please note that we do not recommend this approach for very young children (as they generally need a different style of teaching), but typically it would be fine for children from about the age of 11 years and over, especially those who have prior experience in the martial arts.
The plus side of parents training alongside their children is that it gives a common interest and activity to share together, and you can encourage each other to practice and attend classes on days when you might be lacking in energy!
If you are interested in attending our Karate classes as a family, please get in touch... we'd be happy to discuss this with you.
POLITE NOTE: In cases where children and their parents attend classes together, and the parent(s) have prior experience in martial arts, it's sometimes instinctive for parents to carry their "parental role" over into the class and to try to correct/coach their child(ren) during class. We would politely request that parents refrain from doing so, and focus on their own training... take the opportunity to "switch off" from being "Mum" or "Dad" for a while, and leave the coaching to our fantastic instructors!

FREE TRIAL OF karate CLASSES For Families
Who Have Trained in Martial Arts Before
We offer a FREE trial of up to one month for all "new to us" students, even if they have done martial arts somewhere previously. The trial gives your family the chance to see what we do and whether it's going to be something you enjoy and find useful, and a chance to meet the existing students and get a feel for the atmosphere of the classes. It's also our opportunity to see that you are all people of good character, and that you will fit in well; people with excessive egos and/or aggressive attitudes are weeded-out at this stage, ensuring that our classes are an enjoyable and safe place to be for everyone else!
If your family members still have a uniform from when you practised martial arts previously, you are welcome to wear that initially (though if it's anything other than a plain white or plain black gi, we may ask you to replace it in time), or alternatively you can just wear something loose and casual such as a t-shirt and shorts/leggings/tracksuit trousers instead. We also have Karate gi (uniform) for sale if you want to buy a new one. Don't forget to all trim you toe nails and finger nails beforehand, so as to reduce the likelihood of injury during training.
Even though you may have done martial arts previously, we do require a short form to be completed before you can participate in our classes... we can either send you one in advance by email/post, or you can collect one and fill it out when you come for your first class if you'd rather (be sure to arrive 10 minutes early if you plan to fill the form out "on the day", however).
