Karate classes for Children
Our Karate classes for children (ages 6+) exercise both the body, and the mind! They are great fun,and get youngsters active in a way which they love!
What’s more, Karate is not just about self-defence.
Our classes also reinforce the values which parents wish to see in their children, such as commitment, discipline, self-confidence and a “can do” attitude, good manners, and consideration for others.
Bring your child(ren) along to have fun, make new friends, develop their character, improve their fitness, and learn practical skills which will help to keep them safe from harm.

My daughter has been attending Cornwall Karate for nearly a year now and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Its a great combination of discipline and fun whilst always being engaging. Often there are games at the end of the lessons, bokken battles on a Friday, she's had the experience of breaking wood with her bare hands and recently had one off nunchucks lesson, as well as beach lessons and meals out socially! It's been great for my daughters confidence and physicality. The teachers are fantastic, welcoming and encouraging, and always professional, we love belonging to the Cornwall Karate family!

My son's been attending for about a year. He loves it. He's gained confidence in his movements and himself, plus he gets to see his friends in a fun environment and learn a valuable life skill. Teachers are dedicated and approachable. Older students also help out which I think is good for role modeling for the younger ones. Lots of extra activities also on offer in addition to regular classes eg. Xmas meal, xmas party, beach karate lessons in summer etc. Price very competitive as you can attend both classes per week. Recommended!

My daughter joined Karate in August 2020, as a family friends were attending and recommended. We tried on the off-chance and never looked back. My daughter has grown in confidence and it’s down to the great teaching from the Sensei’s and the Senpai’s. She learnt much more than just karate, too; the history behind it and trust in others by forming friendships she might not have formed by not joining. Cornwall karate is brilliantly run, and I would definitely recommend them to anyone who is willing to give it a go.

My 8 year old son, started his first Karate lesson 8 months ago. He loves it! The Karate cadets has a varied age range, for different abilities. They all work so well together, all the cadets are privileged to have more than one instructor to help teach them. The Cornwall Karate team are welcoming, friendly, respectful, and professional. This karate group offers so much of their own time, a website to support members outside of classes, cadets can attend two classes a week and so much more. I believe Karate to be a life skill and I’m glad my son has started his Karate journey with Cornwall Karate. We are truly grateful for all they all do - thank you! Highly recommend this karate group for anyone who wants to learn karate, whether you're with a child, couple, family, single, whatever your age.

Our son has been attending for several months. He started off once a week but as he enjoys it so much he now goes twice a week. The instructors are really great with the youngsters, making it a fun way to learn but still with the necessary discipline.

I have been taking part in Cornwall Karate's classes for almost 4 years now. I have gained confidence and learnt some excellent self defence, as well as a fun way to exercise. The classes take place at Penzance Leisure Centre. The teachers are brilliant at their jobs, they are all so kind and funny. On the website, you can also find helpful videos. When you join you will get a 1 month free trial. Overall I would really recommend Cornwall Karate to those who are looking for fantastic martial arts class.

Class Times for Beginner Children
Ages 6-11 |
Ages 12+ |

Family Class 7.00pm - 8.30pm (1 1/2 Hours) |
Children aged 6-11 years old, with little or no prior Karate experience, will typically be asked to attend our "Beginner Cadet Classes" (5.30pm-6.30pm on Thursdays and/or Fridays). In these class, we cover the fundamentals of karate, and students learn through a mix of pre-arranged, controlled solo-drills and partner-drills, plus fun game-based activities where they practice what they've learned without even realising it!
Some of the training is suitable for all of the students but, of course, we regularly split the class down (according to belt level) so that students regularly face new opportunities for learning and advanced practice.
Around the age of 11 or 12 years of age (and older), we typically suggest that beginner students attend our "family class" instead of our "cadet class". The "family class" is a little more "mature" than the cadet classes, with more serious activities which suit older children better.
Of course, we look at all children on an individual basis, and are guided by parents views as well as our own observations when deciding which class would be best for them; sometimes a very mature child who isn't quite 11 or 12 years old is better suited to our family class, and conversely sometimes a child who is aged 12 or over might be better suited to the cadet class, at least initially while they gain confidence.

FREE TRIAL OF CHILDREN'S karate CLASSES
We offer a FREE trial of up to one month for all "new to us" students. The trial is your child's opportunity to ensure they are going to enjoy the classes, your opportunity to ensure you like what we do, and our opportunity to ensure your child is mature enough to be safe in practice and to benefit from the classes.
There's no need for any special uniform to be worn during the trial period (in fact, we strongly suggest you wait until the end of your child's free trial period before purchasing one). Instead, they can just wear something loose and casual such as a t-shirt and shorts/leggings/tracksuit trousers. We train bare-footed, so please ensure their toenails (and finger nails) are trimmed prior to class so as not to cause injury during training.
We do require a short "permission form" to be completed before children can participate in our class... we can either send you one in advance by email/post, or you can collect one and fill it out when you bring your child for their first class (be sure to arrive 15 minutes early if you plan to fill it out "on the day").
